Getting Clear: The Foundation of Performance
You’re here. And hopefully you have some ideas why. If not, that’s okay. We’re going to take 5-10 minutes to Get Clear on that. Grab a pen and paper, or pull up the notes on your phone.
There are a few categories your why’s may be hiding. Don’t think hard or long, just jot down anything that comes to mind when you look at each category below. If nothing comes to mind, just move on.
Family - how does supporting a long and well lived life through athletic pursuits and physical vitality positively impact your family?
Career - how does supporting a long and well lived life through athletic pursuits and physical vitality positively impact your professional goals and finances?
Honor - how does supporting a long and well lived life through athletic pursuits and physical vitality honor a person, organization, or cause that you hold close?
Meaning - how does supporting a long and well lived life through athletic pursuits and physical vitality positively impact your life satisfaction?
Growth - how does supporting a long and well lived life through athletic pursuits and physical vitality positively impact your development as human?
Dreams - how does supporting a long and well lived life through athletic pursuits and physical vitality let you live out a current or childhood dream? how does it positively impact your inner child?

Okay, you should now have a list of potential reasons why. They are your pool of purpose, your drivers. So when life makes it hard to show up, you reach for one, two, three, or more of these until one moves you to act. Ideally we are looking for a list of 5-10 that you can keep handy and revisit quickly and often. I find 7 to be my sweet spot. There are days where I can talk myself out of 5…but never all 7 ha!
Here is how you find your final list…
> Take 1-2 minutes. Get quiet. Breath with intention. Inhale for 3-4 seconds, exhale 6-8 seconds.
> Now that you are present in your body, read through the list. Pay attention to anything that creates a strong sensation, an emotion, and make a star next to it.
⭐ These are your WHY’S in this current phase of life. They move you in some way, they stir your heart and soul in a meaningful way. They have the energy to create action, when you’re mind doesn’t.
Keep them close. Use them. And update them as needed.
